Description
This is a very involved process, we remove every bolt, screw & pin. After the main parts of the firearm are taken apart, we then take the carrier bolt, trigger assembly along with the ammo tube or magazines completely apart. With everything taken apart and marked so there is no chance of getting things mixed up everything is cleaned of all grease, oils, dirt, grim, and carbon left behind from the gun powder. After all the years of dirt and grim are gone, the parts are separated into what can be blued and what cannot. While this sorting of parts is going on we are looking at screws that either need fixed to look new or replaced. After the sorting of parts and making a list of parts needed, we begin to process of hunting down and securing either the part or a price and when all parts or located we will make contact you (the owner of the firearm) and see how you wish to proceed. Once all the parts needed are in our possession, we will begin the next step of the Bluing process. This involves different processes and is dependent on if you are wanting a Satin finish or a High Gloss finish.
After the process you ordered is finished, then the next couple steps and identical. All the parts to be Hot Blued will be prepped for the bluing process and while one of our team members is getting the prep tanks and the Brownell’s Premium Hot Bluing Salt tanks heated to operating temperatures another team member will be doing a final clean and inspection of everything and everything that can be blued will head out to the tanks and go threw the bluing process then allowed to cure for a week in a climate controlled curing room with oil reapplied on everything daily.
After the curing process is completed all the curing and water displacement oils are removed and the High gloss finish will be carded with “0000” steel wool. After this carding the firearm will be reassembled. After testing and shooting the firearm is ready to be shipped back to you.
Please keep in mind that this is not a one- or 2-day process. Every firearm has a week of curing time, this is a rough estimate of the Brownell’s Hot Bluing Salts to be leached back out of the metals and it does leave a nasty trail of salts being pushed out of the pores and a good oil must remain of the firearm pieces or it will make the color streaked. Then if you are needing parts there will be the waiting time for the postal services, UPS etc… to get the parts to us. Bluing can proceed without the needed parts but the chances of the bluing from what we are doing, and the bluing of the replacement part matching are almost impossible. Then there are a lot of other variables they will affect the final coloring and appearance, It is best to just wait a few day and then proceed.
