The original purpose of jeweling a rifle bolt was a way for the retention of extra oil on moving parts resulting in smoother operation. After securing the part needing/ wanting to be jeweled onto the milling table and indexing turn table the part is then coated in a lubricating grease impregnated with extremely fine diamond dust for the abrasive This diamond agent is what produces the extremely fine micro grooves into the metal being jeweled
